Description
Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens
I was at the Botanical Gardens on an autumn afternoon photographing grey squirrels when this feral pigeon walked straight toward me. It had a confidence about it that made me put down my squirrel shots and start following it with my lens instead.
Most people dismiss feral pigeons, but they’re genuinely interesting birds. The iridescent purples and greens around their necks are beautiful when the light catches them properly. I used palette knife work on the 6×6” panel to capture that texture and metallic quality without overworking it.
If you prefer the original painting, it’s still available here.
