Description
A Sheffield Kingfisher in Print
This is a giclée print of my oil painting of a male kingfisher, photographed at the pond near Shepherd Wheel in Sheffield’s Porter Valley. It’s one of the most reliable spots in the city for kingfisher sightings, and after several hours of waiting over multiple visits — including one fruitless 90-minute session — I got lucky on an autumn morning in 2025 when this bird appeared within minutes of my arrival.
The original painting was created in a single session on an 8×8 inch Ampersand Gessobord panel, using palette knife work and broken edges to suggest the atmosphere of the location. You can view the original painting here.
Print Details
This print is produced using fade-resistant pigment inks on Hahnemühle Pearl paper, a heavyweight archival paper with a subtle pearl lustre finish that brings out the colour and detail of the original painting. The print is designed to be framed — the 0.5 inch white border gives a clean edge and allows for standard framing without a separate mount if preferred.
