Description
Painted from a photo taken at Martin Mere WWT reserve in Lancashire, where they run regular otter feeding sessions. Oil on a 6×6″ Ampersand Gessobord panel, painted in a single session in my Sheffield studio in 2025.
Asian short-clawed otters are the smallest otter species in the world, weighing 1–5 kg fully grown. They’re native to South and Southeast Asia and listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. They live in family groups, use at least 12 distinct vocalisations, and are known to juggle stones with their paws.
