Description

A Blue Tit Frozen in Flight

This is a giclée print of my oil painting of a blue tit caught mid-flight in my Sheffield garden. I set up my camera on a tripod aimed at the flight path between a bush and the bird feeder, and used burst mode over several hours to capture hundreds of frames. This moment stood out — wings drawn back, coming in for landing.

I painted it in two sessions on a 6×6 inch Ampersand Gessobord panel, keeping the extreme wing edges deliberately loose to preserve the sense of motion. This painting is one of a pair — its companion piece, Return Journey, shows the same bird heading back to the tree with a sunflower seed. The original painting has sold, but this print captures every detail of the piece.

Print Details

This print is produced using fade-resistant pigment inks on Hahnemühle Pearl paper, a heavyweight archival paper with a subtle pearl lustre finish that brings out the colour and detail of the original painting. The print is designed to be framed — the 0.5 inch white border gives a clean edge and allows for standard framing without a separate mount if preferred.
